Matt Beland
Matt has been creating pottery for about a decade. While usually describing his primary hobby as “collecting hobbies”, the combination of artistic possibilities, craft-based techniques, and opportunity to teach have firmly cemented pottery as first among his many passions.
The founder and lead instructor of Glass & Stone Pottery, Matt spends his time creating new materials for classes and workshops, developing production pottery designs, and occasionally dropping everything to work on something that’s inspired him - probably at an inconvenient moment.
Part of Matt’s Demo Series - pots produced as part of an in-class demonstration - this wine pitcher stands over 9” tall and holds a full 750ml bottle of wine. The large, arcing handle makes for a comfortable hold to pour the wine whether it’s the first glass or the last.
Hand-made from porcelain at our Lake Stevens studio, the pitcher is fully vitrified, dishwasher-safe, and ready to spark conversation at your next dinner party.
A light stoneware creamer for the breakfast table, this lightly-speckled clay and elegant blue glaze will brighten your morning while it lightens your coffee.
Hand-thrown in our studio as a class demo, this is a one-of-a-kind piece. As with all our utility pieces, this piece is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.
A pair of porcelain serving jars for olive oil and vinegar. Hand-thrown from delicate porcelain, these light and elegant vessels hold enough for even a large family meal.
This 4.5” tall table vase is a lovely little piece I made as part of a classroom demo, demonstrating a particular throwing technique and then carving the surface on a whim. The active blue glaze plays with the texture and highlights the carved relief while accentuating the curves of the vase body.
This is a stoneware Utensil jar, designed to hold spatulas and spoons while bringing a touch of art to your kitchen in the process. The combination of glazes and techniques create a beautiful scene that’s open to interpretation - some people see wavelets lapping on a sandy beach, others see distant mountains in a desert with a blue sky arching above.
A limited series, no two of these are exactly alike.
This is a hand-thrown set of stoneware pitcher and cups, made from a densely speckled white stoneware and glazed with a very soft green Celadon glaze. As a set, the pitcher holds slightly more than enough to fill both cups.
Shaped with a delicate, handle-less neck, the pitcher invites your hand and pours easily.
Microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe.
This vase plays with the way glaze flows and travels down the curve of the neck. The rich blue tones of the top glaze against the glossy black of the base create an endless array of shapes and shadows that draw the eye and create new scenes and stories every time you look at it.
Standing 6” tall, this vase is suitable for holding cut or dried flowers, static art pieces, or just serving as a stand-alone piece to bring beauty and color to your home or office.
So… these lil’ guys were fun and all, but they’re not… quite… right. It’s not their fault! The glazing is a little off. And the transfers didn’t get crisp enough. And this clay off-gasses in the kiln sometimes and usually it’s controllable but sometimes it makes odd bubbles. What we have here are a handful of mugs that are perfectly sound, safe to use, and adorable - but they’re not as intended, so we’re letting them go for a discounted price. Want one?
These are fully vitrified stoneware, so they’re microwave and dishwasher safe. Usual shipping rates apply, or you can select Local Pickup from our studio in Lake Stevens. Enjoy!
